First day...complete

Monday September 16
First days always feel a bit rough around the edges...everyone is figuring out how they fit in, where stuff is...or that there is not something...
We as usual were greeted by a line 1/2 way down the block...a waiting room jam packed all day with folks hoping that the "American" team will help them.
It was an easy day of only 5 surgeries...we started with a three year old who had ear tubes placed...she like 98% of the kids back home came out kicking and screaming...esta normal.
We ended the day with a young woman who  not only had a septoplasty...which would have been enough....but also had her tonsils removed.
Theses Peruvian folks from the Andes are one tough group!
The team met at a favorite restaurant valle sargardo...they have wonderful trout.
Our fearless leader regaled us in story...what is said in Peru stays in Peru..
As we walked to the bus we ran into some old friends Sandra and her two kids Niles and Tarin..some how we jammed 17 of us in her pick-up truck...off we went...and smile later were pulled over by the police..Sandra skillfully smooth talked the officer into letting us pass...because we were the "American Drs and nurses" I must be getting old...or smarter??? because I climbed in the cab versus the bed of the truck.  Frankly it was probably the most cautious vechicle ride I have ever had in Peru.
